In the kitchen
or things we ate this week
You know what it is like - every now and again we lose interest in cooking - at least those of us who do and enjoy it. Turning to old favourites is sometimes just the thing to do. On Sunday I made a favourite in this house, a pasta bake with pork mince, fennel, carrots and spinach from Dish magazine. I made it before going out and it just needed to be popped into the oven to melt the cheese-y topping. Unfortunately, it maybe got left in a little long without a foil lid, so it is rather brown, but gosh it is a great, simple but tasty dish.

I bought some lamb and mint sausages to try from our local butcher, and served them with an aubergine/yoghurt side dish, fresh peas and potatoes. The sausages were very good, and even better cold as part of a work lunch (yes, dear reader, I am one of those people who like cold sausages).

The vegetable box delivered up a very large cauliflower, so I roasted florets and made this salad from Peter Gordon’s Savour. The tahini and yoghurt dressing really adds a lot to the dish.
I really need to decide what to write about on Substack….something for me to contemplate over the summer!

Love a pasta bake!
Lots to love in here - the crunchy bits on the pasta bake, cold sausages (yep, me too) and that cauliflower salad.
